In extrusion blow moulding the label goes into the open mould before the parison drops. Air inflates the parison against it, and the heat-seal layer bonds it permanently into the container wall.
A blow mould label is a pre-printed, heat-seal-coated film inserted into the blow mould cavity ahead of the parison. When the parison inflates, the heat of the polymer activates the seal layer and the label fuses into the container surface.
The bond is permanent and unaffected by moisture, oil or cold-chain handling. Because the label sits flush in the container wall, there is no raised edge for it to lift from.
Both are in-mould decoration, but the process is different and so is the film. Sending the wrong film to the wrong process is the single most common reason a first trial fails.
If you run injection moulding, you need IML instead.
There is no adhesive layer to fail. Paper and wet-glue labels wrinkle when damp and detach without waterproof glue - a bonded in-mould label does not have that failure mode.
Post-mould labelling is a separate step with its own labour, consumables and rejection rate. BML removes it from the line entirely.
The bonded label works with the container wall to resist deformation. In some applications this allows a lighter container at the same performance - a direct resin saving.
A PP or PE label on a PP or HDPE bottle recycles as one stream, with no label-separation step.
Send a container drawing or sample, your resin type and wall thickness, the machine make, whether the mould uses vacuum ports or static pinning, the panel layout, and your annual volume. We will recommend film grade, thickness and die profile, then ship a sample kit for a trial run.
A blow mould label is a printed, heat-seal-coated film placed inside a blow mould before the parison enters. When the parison inflates, the label bonds permanently into the container wall, so it cannot be peeled or washed off.
BML is engineered for extrusion blow moulding, where a heat-seal coating bonds the label to the parison at low pressure. IML is for injection moulding, where high pressure fuses the label directly. The film construction differs, so the two are not interchangeable.
HDPE, LDPE and PP containers. Share your resin grade and wall thickness and we will match the seal layer.
You need a label dispenser and either vacuum ports or static pinning in the mould to hold the label in position. Existing lines are commonly retrofitted rather than replaced.
Yes. The label is PP or PE on a PP or HDPE container, so the decorated bottle recycles as a single material stream.
MOQ depends on panel size, colour count and artwork. Contact TopGuard with your container specification for exact figures.
